The need for quality-rich and dynamic digital solutions has massively increased with time. From infusing security to integrations that can meet the productivity goals, the need for tech solutions has called for revolution in the tech landscape.
More importantly, the introduction of Quality assurance services into the picture has significantly enabled businesses from diverse verticals to align with product performance goals. And since we at BugRaptors are closely aligned to implement technologies and methodologies that could upgrade the tech operations, we understand the need for introducing innovation.
Especially, when goals are centered around the need for improved deliveries through enhanced internal operations, we practice on everything like agile to hybrid test automation frameworks. Nevertheless, the only thing that can make any company or developer or tester to feel left behind is lack of exposure to knowledge and changing industry trends.
With such thought in mind, we constantly work on interacting with QA brains from around the world. Our tech talks with experts from industry allow us to take different technologies, approach, and progressive creativity to the world.
This time, our in-house expert, Parteek Goel, Automation Manager, BugRaptors interacted with Lisette ZOUNON from Dallas, United States. With an experience of more than 18 years, Lisette is presently working as the Director of Quality Engineering at Fort Robotics.
She is an international speaker who loves to speak on anything related to technology, testing, and the agile concept, sharing his expert insights to leaders from different industries and at all levels. Lisette is a highly motivated individual and is passionate about everything related to quality engineering, leadership, women in STEM, women health, and women confidence.
With that being said, let us quickly jump on learning her expert take on performance testing, scalable test automation, productivity hacks, and more.
Parteek: When did you first become interested in quality assurance?
Lisette: I was first introduced to quality from reading about software testing in one of my software development books. I was then introduced to software testing at my first internship at Apple Computer. In this role, I was tasked to test various video games with various types of device drivers on various MAC computers back then.
Parteek: What’s the biggest challenge you’re facing in your role right now and how are you tackling it?
Lisette: The challenge in my current role is an exciting role that combines leading a QA team responsible for hardware, firmware and software applications that should integrate together for security and safety solutions for autonomous machines. It is also bringing DevOps best practices to an embedded device testing platform while creating a device farm testing platform to enable our team to test various combinations of our devices from anywhere around the world for our internal and external testers.
Parteek: What kind of challenges have you encountered while performing testing in an agile environment?
Lisette: Most of the challenges, I have encountered while performing testing in an agile environment is the following:
Better of LOE - Level of effort not accurate so QA folks end up testing a lot more
Estimation challenge because the estimation is not accurate and therefore testing needs to be complete at the end to meet sprint goal.
Can you share some best practices for building maintainable and scalable test automation.
Ensure that everyone in the team is responsible for test automation, therefore everyone can add to the automation framework, as well as help maintain it. It is great to ensure that the team prioritize the positive scenarios for automation first.
Parteek: What’s your favorite productivity hack?
Lisette: My favorite production hack is to maintain a to do list. I am huge in writing down everything. So I started with my yearly goals, I called them my big rocks. Then I create a quarterly list, then a monthly list. From there, I create a weekly list of tasks to do. Then I choose what tasks to work on everyday. I also do not believe in any notifications from phone, email or slack. I like to focus on tasks without distractions so I can give all my attention to certain tasks.
Parteek: What occupation (other than your own) would you like to try?
Lisette: I wanted to be a lawyer and a patent agent.
Parteek: What would be the best way to stay connected with you?
Lisette: Best way to connect with me is on social media via Linkedin.
